2013 Hot Pepper Seedlings

My peppers have been going for about a month and I have healthy seedlings for all but a few of my original list. A few of the seedlings are a little yellow but the same thing has happened in past season for certain types that I grow. The most common cause of yellowing at his stage of growth is usually is over watering but that’s not the case with a few of these, for whatever reason they always start on the yellow side in growing conditions even when other peppers are a much darker shade of green. It never seems to stunt or any way negatively impact the plant’s growth so it’s not something I get concerned about. Also they tend to grow out if it pretty quickly. One each of the chocolate habs and chocolate bhuts did not sprout. The chocolate bhut that did sprout took almost 30 days to pop, just a reminder to not give up on your pepper seeds early! I planted another chocolate bhut and instead of replanting the chocolate hab I planted a yellow 7 pot from seeds I took from pods I ordered a couple years ago. Since my last post I had a few cayenne seedlings sprout too. Overall a nice start to the 2013 season.

    I’ve planted mine yesterday :
    – 10 Trinidad Scorpion Butch T
    – 10 7 Pot Brain Strain
    – 10 Bhut Jolokia
Planted into Biobizz All Mix under a 250W Eco CFL bulb (72F° & 68% humidity)

This is my second seasons doing this (previously only with Bhut Jolokia). Last time I planted them earlier, too early in fact, and they went to big before weather was good enough (maybe too much Root Juice, Bio Grow, Bio Bloom, Top Max, etc. it makes them go crazy …). So I had to make a lot of space in my tiny flat … :s

This time I try a 100% natural with only water.

    I Can’t wait ! 🙂

    Hi PepperSeed !

Mine look like yours on your article’s pic now. In fact here is the grow log so far :
    – Planted 18 of march
    – 14 days later : the first Scorpion sprouted
    – Today (21 days later) : 1/10 Bhut Jolokia, 8/10 Scorpion, 1/10 Brain Strain.

The Trinidad Scorpion Butch T sprouted very well and grow very fast whereas the other are not doing so well. You seem to have a lot of experience with peppers, did you noticed something similar by you side ?

If I do remember well, Bhuth Jolokia take a month to sprout last time I planted some.

@ ph yes I see a lot of differences in growth of early seedlings and between types. Bhuts are always some of my slowest growers and I have had them take 30+ days to sprout.

Love you’re blog. This is only my 2nd season growing hot peppers, but enjoying every second of it. If you’d ever like to chat about the hobby, I’d appreciate the input. Thanks!

@PH, this season is going great so far. The inside part of my grow was very uneventful…no pests, diseases or issues to deal with. I started hardening the plants off mid May and they have been in the raised beds for about 10 days now:

I have 3 beds like that one. They all look the same so only need to post one picture 🙂

NICE! I got some Ghost Pepper seeds from Pepperjoes and so far 3 out of ten have sprouted (15 days). Working on efficient sunlight while they are in the garage (or artificial light).

I’m in McHenry, hopefully we have a good season!

That’s great Sean! Did you just start the seeds? In this part of the country you might be a little late to get much this year…all really depends on how the last few weeks are weather-wise. I started my super hots this year in Feb and moved them to the raised beds in the middle of May.

    Hi there !

So how are you peppers doing ? Any update soon ? 🙂

My indoor C. Chinense are doing great (about 35″, lots of flowers, but no pods yet) but my outdoor Chinense are not growing very fast (the weather is horrible at the moment in northern EU … 🙁 )

I also planted a lot of wild capsicum (around 10 different species) 2 weeks ago but so far only the CGN 19198 (C. Eximium) sprouted (btw very surprisingly they sprouted in 4 days and are growing very fast. I’m glad because I heard they can behave like a diva …)

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Greeting from France
