Caramel Bhut Jolokia 2012 Grow Part 1

In the 2011 growing season I found what I’m calling the caramel bhut jolokia growing in my garden. I had a number of chocolate bhut jolokias growing and they all looked the same except for one plant. That plant had bright green pods and ripened not quite red and not quite chocolate…more of a caramel color. I sent the seeds out to a number of growers and am also growing 5 plants of my own this season. So far of the 5 I have growing one looks like it’s growing true (unripe pods pictured above), one appears to not be growing true and it’s too early to tell for the other three, none of them have pods yet.

As I mentioned I sent seeds to a number of growers and some of them have been posting pictures online. Here are links to threads/pictures I am aware of. Some of these all full blown “grow logs” so you may have to scroll through a few pages to see the caramel bhut pictures. If you’re growing this from seeds I sent or seeds you received from someone else I’d love to know about it, free to post in the comments below.

2 weeks ago I transplanted my peppers and tomatoes to my garden (after hardening them outside for 2 weeks). The plants were all very healthy at the time. When transplanting I mulched around each plant in the raised beds. I have drip watering system timed to water each morning for 45 minutes. Plants did well for first week and a half. I checked them 2 days ago – all good. Went to check them this morning and they all were completely wilted…and virtually DISINTEGRATED, except for two jalapeño plants. I had cayennes, banana peppers, bell peppers and jalapeños. I checked the soil and it was very moist. Any thoughts as to why this happened?

This weekend, I had the oproutpnity to visit Jungle Jim’s International Market, located in Fairfield, Ohio just outside of Cincinnati. It was glorious, to say the least. I wish I lived closer than two hours away so I could shop there on a regular basis because I would! Jungle Jim’s began as a local farmer’s market in 1971 and has only grown from there. What makes Jungle Jim’s special (besides the size, variety, freshness, local fare, international selections)? Jungle Jim’s is much more than a grocery store, it’s a whole destination! There are over 200,000 square feet (that’s about sixa0acres) of shopping space in and over 150,000 products from which to choose. You could get lost there.
